The Bat's pentadactyl limb
The bat is an extraordinary animal. It is the only mammal
that has mastered flight to survive. Evolving from a gliding ape like animal. To
evolve into a mammal that has evolved to fly because there is a lot of food in
the air that they couldn’t get unless they could fly. The bats pentadactyl limb is its wing. It doesn’t have the same wing
structure as a bird. Instead of feathers they have 5 elongated fingers with stretched
skin between them. The wings have the same bone structure as any pentadactyl
limb. Except they have an elongated, but strong, radius which helps them power
their wings. They have a similar wrist region and their thumb protrudes and
acts as a claw. This claw is vital for when the bat is climbing and handling
food. Its other 5 digits are purely for the support of the wing. The wing is
made from the skin on the bat’s body stretched out.
